Is there anything to be said for Google Play v Spotify? I had both but then thought no point in paying for both...

There isn't much of a difference but if you pay for Google Play you also get Youtube Red and vice versa.

Gamer PSA!
If anyone is using an Nvidia card be aware that there newest driver 378.49 is causing issues in some games. I had to do a rollback to my last driver because it made Minecraft impossible to launch, and there have been issues with Factorio as well. I don't know if any other games are suffering, but if you experience problems with any games it might be worth looking into. |

Somebody pretend that I'm five years old and explain Facebook pixels to me.

I know Facebook recently changed how the pixel thing works (I only know this because I recently attempted to make an online store and did a test advertising campaign on FB, and I'll have to do another one soon)
If you've ever used Google analytics, it's kinda like that? It's just a piece of javascript code that you embed on your site to collect information about people who visit. This is the most succinct explanation of it I can find: "The pixel is a transparent, 1x1, unique image file that can be embedded on pages outside of Facebook (unique = 1 per advertiser account). That image file, however, sits on Facebook servers. So, each time it is loaded, it increments counters on Facebook's side. Each time a user accesses Facebook, using a specific browser, machine, and IP address, this generates a signature that Facebook matches to that user. If the same user uses several devices and several browsers, and don't we all, all of these combinations can be associated to one, single user. And each time the pixel file is being seen by a user... Facebook servers can see which browser is used, which machine and which IP address. In other words, they are able to reconstruct that signature - they know which Facebook user has seen the pixel. As long as a user accesses the page that has a pixel in a way that they used once to log on Facebook, they can be identified and matched to a Facebook ID. When the pixel is seen, Facebook server is also aware on what page it is. Informations on the page can determine what action the user was performing. So Facebook can know things like: who are the users who checked a given product in the last 2 weeks but didn't purchase it? And advertisers can show an ad to that specific group. And that ad can be cross-platform: if you've checked a pair of shoes on your phone while in the bathroom (... it's ok we all do that) but didn't click play because you couldn't see well enough, you can get an ad for that same pair of shoes next time you connect to Facebook on a computer." |

That helps a lot, thanks. I had kind of an understanding of it when I first posted that, but not enough to explain it to someone else (which is what I need to do).

Proxies that allow image uploading/downloading? I don't mind paying.

Anyone here got a tablet? No I haven't got a headache: I recently discovered some money I didn't know I had and am thinking of maybe (maybe) getting a tablet. Mostly it will just be for reading Kindle books, listening to some music maybe (though not necessarily) and doing some writing. I'm seeing 1gb/2gb models, screens 10.1, is this about right? What sort of storage space should I be looking for? And I need one with a keyboard or possibly a connection for one, if that's possible.
Anyone any advice? I'm not willing to spend huge money, in fact I'm only considering the idea so, say, maybe 100 Euro? Less? Are there names I should look out for/avoid, things I should know? Impart your wisdom, o tablet owners! Note: obviously, I don't expect/intend this to be a replacement for my PC. It would just be something extra to use.

Tablets have Bluetooth so you can just buy a Bluetooth keyboard and use that. I use a Bluetooth keyboard with my laptop even though my laptop has a keyboard, the Bluetooth one is just better (quieter, backlight). Quote:

I would look at the Nexi (that's plural for Nexus) tablets tbh. Might be over your budget though. Nexus 7 may be possible if it's second hand. |
