So in an effort to make The Witcher 3 run a bit more smoothly at 60 fps, I overclocked both my CPU and GPU to varying degrees and after stress testing, found that both were safe settings. I oc'd my CPU to 4.2 gHz with a idle temperature of about 34 degrees and somewhere between 50-60 under load. My GPU, a GTX 970, was clocked to 150 core clock and 200 memory clock, while under stock voltage. I ran Unigine Valley and Heaven multiple times and experienced no artifacting and my CPU temperature never went above 70 degrees, so I figured my overclocks were OK. When I actually went into my Witcher 3 game however, I got crashed on occasion, without any notice or refernce number, hell I can't even find a crash report file, and a couple of times my screen just went grey, and then the game crashed. I did a little bit of research on that and it appears to be a VRAM issue, but I don't know how to fix it because others are reporting the same overclock settings without these issues. For the time being I have returned both the CPU and GPU to the stock settings until I can figure out what went wrong. I have a feeling though I can fix the GPU one just by trying lower settings and benchmarking it, but considering I don't know if it was CPU or GPU problems that were causing my game to crash, I don't know where to start.
