Why Zune owners get so upset when you call their Zunes Ipods.
Here in the last week or so I have had two or three people abruptly correct me for calling thier Zune an Ipod. It seems like if someone called an Ipod a Zune no one would get upset. Why is this MB?

I'm sure if you were to go out on the streets and see people fiddling around with their iPods and you asked them how they're enjoying their Zunes they'd correct you as well. I'm sure there are some Zune owners who own a Zune for the fact that it's NOT an iPod and thus feel... compelled to share the fact that they don't own one. There's also the whole mind set that the iPod is the only mp3 player out there and that can annoy some people.

I do and I love it, I don't mind iPods, I just hate iTunes and considering I could never get an iPod to work with Winamp without turning the iPod into a portable hard drive with no ability to play music the Zune was the obvious choice. Now if you created this tread just to bash on Zunes and Zune owners then I'm going to have to close it.

When people make the choice to buy a Zune often they're doing it to make the point of not buying an iPod. Now do you see why they're tetchy when you mention their iPod? I'd hazard a larger percent of iPod users response to asking about their Zune would be more along the lines of "Zune? Whu'?" hence they're less likely to get upset. Ignorance is bliss.
The power! The power!!

Dim... I don't own a Zune or an iPOD. I have a Sony, which I don't even use.
But strictly speaking from a neutral perspective, I think people just get annoyed because iPOD's brand name has become a common noun. It's the same thing with Google... When someone suggests you search for something on the internet, they say "Google it"... Meanwhile, there are plenty of other search engines out there and a lot of people use them. But the success of Google, and iPOD respectively, has made these brands/company names synonymous with common terms. I can't say whether it's jealousy that fuels anger about this, but I'm sure there's a certain amount of brand-loyalty purism behind the pride one holds for his/her investments. It's not a bad thing, really. I guess Zune purchasers are just proud of their MP3 player and don't want it to be confused with something they don't actually like.

But I have noticed that Zune users are more passionate about there Zunes. A lot of people choose Zune because they hate Itunes and maybe want to shwo you there hatred towards it. Like maybe if I was listening to a band and someoen came up to me and was like "Is that Creed you're listening to?" I'd respond with something like "Hell no, they suck." |

People don't buy Zunes out of spite for iPOD. Not rational people, at least.
Sometimes there are just things out there that fulfill the needs of the consumer and just so happen to not be the most popular product on the market. In my case, I got a Sony Walkman MP3 player. It was Sony's first one, and it was cheap. I bought it. It plays music. My needs: Met. I didn't want iPOD because I don't like the navigation and I don't like iTunes. I would have gotten a Zune but I'm not about to drop that much money on something so insignificant as a freaking MP3 player that I barely ever use, if at all. So, choices CAN be made according to personal preference and not just spite of another competitor. I think the only people who don't think that way are the people who buy things for the popularity status and nothing more.
