I have a Zune.
I don't get upset when they call it iPod. So I don't know what you're saying. |

I have an iPod. Not because of peer pressure (though that helped) but before I got one lots of people were like "oh you don't have an iPod then?" or "oh it's trying to look like an iPod" or something vaguely along those lines. Of the people that don't have iPods and stick to things like the Creative Zen or, nowadays, the Zune many will often have a dislike of iPods that far out stripes the time they took to consider how the different machines match up. Human nature is far more susceptible to advertising power (or an obstinate rejection there of) than logic and reason.

By popularity status, I mean it can go both ways... Some people buy underdog out of disdain for popular things, and some people just buy because it's the only thing they know. I just think purchases should be made because people like what they're buying. And when that's the case, maybe they're proud of the product they purchased and don't like others mistaking it for something else. It's just kinda messed up when there are people out there that, because of aggressive advertising and inadequate researching, don't even realize the other options that are available to them.

Now perhaps I may have been a little quick to bring up the idea of locking this thread and this is my first official day as a moderator so there will be some bumps like this along the way until I get fully accustomed to the job itself. The threat of a lockdown was not just based at you Dim Mak, but anyone who wants to start a bitch fest over who's mp3 player is better. I did not mean to make you feel like that comment was directly related to you (perhaps I should have worded it better) and I apologize if I offended you. This thread has potential to turn into a decent debate over the pros and cons of certain mp3 players. |

I recently got a zune (red 8GB..so cute ) and love it, and ya, i would correct you if you called it an iPod. For one, I did a lot of shopping around to find the best quality player for the lowest price. Almost all of my friends that have an iPod got it from their mommys and didn't even bother to think twice about how much it cost. They don't care if they drop it and it breaks because hey, the new ones coming out in a week and they were going to get a new one anyway.
That mindset is my least favorite thing about my peers, and so, I'm going to do almost everything I can to avoid getting lumped in with that group of people. Its a generalization (some kids actually payed for and protect their iPods) but hey, so is this entire thread. Plus, Zunes don't have as many legal restrictions as iPod and iTunes do. And, all the new iPods are so freaking tiny and light that i can barely feel them in my hand. Very annoying. Oh, but PS, since i got my Zune for so cheap (its probably refurbished or something) the battery simply will NOT hold a charge. If i charge it all the way, turn it off, and come back 12 hours later, the battery is dead again... does anyone else have this problem? None of the reviews mentioned it. Maybe i just got a faulty unit.

Contact supplier and ask if it's under warranty. In the UK manufacturers are required to provide a 1 year, fit for use warranty and will service/replace it failing that. If it is refurbished it may just need the old battery replacing, which is common with that sort of thing for the battery to stop holding a charge after a good amount of use.

It's a common problem with anything. Laptops, Zunes, iPods, phones, cameras. Anything that uses a rechargeable battery, the battery will only have so many hours of use in it before it starts to degrade.
