So, ok, you like Carhartt; but what is the point of buying a sweatshirt that says, "Carhartt"? The entire point of Carhartt is the clothes are durable and utilitarian; yet, somehow, this seems to have been transformed into a prestige brand of such magnitude people will pay top dollar for a sweatshirt simply because it says... "Carhartt".

I buy name brand strictly because they typically are built to last. I tend to like the style and cut of the said name brands also. Its never been about having a name brand on my body its about being comfortable and having something that will last. I do see your point though, and often the name is not synonymous with quality on many occassions.
