drinking

what are your thoughts on lowering the drinking age?

Sweet Jane 01-17-2005 01:02 PM

How what where why?

Fenixpunk 01-17-2005 01:03 PM

i say lower it, that way i dont have to be bugged by kids wanting me to buy them a 40 everytime i walk into the liquor store.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-17-2005 01:05 PM

lowering the drinking age are the worst ****ing emo band i`ve ever heard

Fenixpunk 01-17-2005 02:12 PM

speaking of drinking...a couple fun drunk games:
Try to pee straight the drunker you get!

try and stumble home before you pass out!

CrAzyBeAuTiFul 01-17-2005 07:04 PM

i say they should to 16 !!!:P

jibber 01-17-2005 07:22 PM

meh, It's not a big deal in canada, it's either 18 or 19 here. In the US it's rediculous, you can get married and die in a war, but you can't drink. In my opinion it should be 18 everywhere, it just makes more sense that way.

jesus 01-17-2005 07:41 PM

I think they should lower it.

sleepy jack 01-17-2005 09:26 PM

They should lower it cause i wanna drink and you can get homeless people to buy it for you all you have to do is give em money for themselves and they do it.

jibber 01-17-2005 10:53 PM

haha, honestly, it's overrated, after a while the novelty wears off, then it's pretty much no different from being underage.

really? ive just started *shh* and i like it

Thrice 01-17-2005 11:23 PM

I say Hell nah dont lower it. People are dumb as fugg anyways, we dont need even more kids doing that crap legally. Dont get me wrong I love to drink and such, but I dont get all ***ed out and kill people with my car. I know too many people that would easily though

blackTshirt 01-17-2005 11:59 PM

i don't give a f*ck, i don't enjoy drinking....but i do care about all those kids that are so curious and would try it just to be cool...i don't think lowering is a good idea, plus who stops you if you drink it at home? no one would know but your parents...so what?

MyWorld 01-18-2005 12:30 AM

I guess I don't care if it's lowered or not. I live in the US so it's 21 but if someone wants to drink they won't wait that long. Lowering it to 18 would be ok I guess, but it might mean more drunk teen drivers. I know kids, even little 13 and 14 year old kids start drinking and think they're so cool. I don't think it's cute though, it's not good to have kids develop drinking habits so early even if they can get away with it. I guess my main concern would be drunk driving but I don't think it would hurt to lower it a couple of years.

covle 01-18-2005 05:41 AM

iv been drinking for some time now, and those who have spoken to me would know that i probably dont look like stopping anytime soon. seeing as the age here doesnt bother me, i have no beef with it. but i do think its stupid to-in australia anyway-turn 18 and then be able to legally drink and legally drive alone. there is talk in victoria(my state) about lowering the driving age to 17 so that there is experiance before alcohol becomes a big issue.

jibber 01-18-2005 04:13 PM

^ yeah, up here the driving age is 16, and a lot of people get their learners liscences when they're 14, so by the time they reach 18, a lot of people have been driving for 4 years.

CrAzyBeAuTiFul 01-18-2005 07:43 PM

Isn't it if your born in 1990 and on u can't get ur G1 till your 18 ...[in canada]

xEmochicKx 01-19-2005 06:25 PM

thats a new law
thank god i was born before

jibber 01-19-2005 06:34 PM

Yeah, luckily I don't have to worry about that since I got my liscence before then. I can't even imagine how annoying it would be not to be able to drive. Anyways back to drinking, don't get me wrong, I do enjoy partying and everything, but a lot of people make a really big deal about being able to go into bars and everything, and although it's a lot of fun at first, once the novelty wears off, it's just a regular part of going out, nothing too special. But I really don't think the drinking age should be lowered, 18 is completely reasonable, there are enough idiots drinking without adding a whole bunch of younger kids.

CrAzyBeAuTiFul 01-19-2005 06:40 PM

^Yeah i agree

even though i would wana b able to buy my alcohal etc... its smart that they don't

anti_poptart_chik 01-19-2005 08:57 PM

it would b cool if they lowered it here in aust. cause a majority of the population under 18 drinks anyway but wat they also should do is put certain boundaries on where kids could drink n wat could be sold, cause u wouldnt want a 16yr old girl in a pub downing rum or something surrounded by drunk 30yr old guys

hookers with machineguns 01-22-2005 11:25 PM

nothing like a great idea such as lowering the drinking age so more stupid teens can get drunk and get behind the wheel, as if they can drive without being intoxicated to begin with.

Line87 01-24-2005 08:02 AM

It would be alright.... I mean you can drive a car when your 16 so why not.
Where I come from we can by alcohol when we are 16 (Last year it was 15) but we cannot drive untill we are 18.....

MUSE girl 01-24-2005 10:01 AM

we can buy alchol and ***s at 16 but we ent allowed to drive untill we are 17, o well 5 months to wait!

In America you could do porn before you can drink
Thats another reason i'm proud to be Canadian, wait, if the drinking age is lowered, they should make the porn age lower, only to sixteen, nobody other than a horny pedophile wants to see a naked 12 year old
I swear if I ever become Prime Minister...

hazyshadeofwinter 01-25-2005 05:53 PM

I don't care for drinking at all:

Alcohol tastes gross to me, and personally, I know how to have fun without it.

:D

Line87 01-27-2005 01:14 PM

I knew how to have fun without it a year ago.... Now I'm pretty much addicted...!

spearmint 01-27-2005 02:33 PM

I think they should...and they should legalise drugs...I figure if someone's alowed to do it they don't wanna do it

hookers with machineguns 01-27-2005 04:35 PM

^ Right, since people only abuse drugs because it is illegal.

Just what the world needs, more heroin and meth addicts.

Waynegrow 01-27-2005 05:20 PM

http://www.stopmethaddiction.com/img/meth-user7.jpg MMMM hot Meth addict. We need more. :yikes:

i see what he means though.it would lose the tough image to an extent. but then it would be much easier to obtain, and that would subject a larger amount of people to it. so that wouldnt really work.

*she

and I see your argument, but then again it's a stupid thing to even contemplate doing...you'd need something urging you on...I knew that comment would start something, but maybe it's different because I've never had the temptation to do something like that...making it illegal doesn't really stop people taking it though...it just means they go through **** to get it, but if they want it they sure as hell get it anyway!

and maybe people are thinking about it from the wrong side...saying maybe the people who take it are the bad ones when in all fairness they're probably not they probably have had horrible stuff happen to them or something. Maybe we should stop wasting our time imprisoning people for taking it...and find out why they are, maybe there should just be more people to help

Sneer 02-05-2005 04:44 AM

most teenagers drink anyway, lowering the age will make no real difference- their either gonna get drunk in a pub or in an empty park anyway so who cares. drugs are another matter, by making them legal you'll just get people thinking its ok to take them thus more suseptical teenagers **** up their lives.

spearmint 02-05-2005 05:06 AM

whether people think it's ok to do it or not when they want it they take uit...like smoking everybody knows its very bad for you and some people take it into acount, but they're legal giving the person a chance to makle there own decisions...making cigarettes illigal for people under 16 has never stopped school kids going out of site of teachers to have a smoke...although most of them do it for the thrill of doing somethingn they shouldn't....it'd be a hard thing to bring into power now obviously after so long it's been the cool thing to do and people will carry on

but if it was legal for them to smoke drink and take drugs at 12 and all the cool people on TV were sipping tea and eating bicuits I'm sure they wouldn't go out and get drugs. If people don't do it to look cool I dunno why they do it...sure after a while they get hooked but to start with...meh, just my thoughts. People are swayed to much by celebrities and what's "cool"

hookers with machineguns 02-05-2005 08:47 AM

The people you are referring to are just dumb know-nothing-about-the-world high school kids. There are lots of people who get into certain habits outside of the high school atmosphere. Smoking and drinking, and even drugs, are social "aids" if you will. They bring people together and allow people to share a good time and some good laughs. Kids are gonna be kids, so the lawmakers really are powerless there. With cigarettes, they are mainly harming themselves and that is a personal decision.

at least when theyre illegal people know the consequences of law so it may deter them. plus, if they were legalised they would be a lot easier to obtain in the first place. anyway, 12 is a bit low, im thinking more along the lines of 16 for drinking.

hookers with machineguns 02-05-2005 10:44 AM

I don't think 16 year olds should be drinking legally. I was 16, and I'm fully aware what it is like at that age. People at that age are simply not mature enough to handle drinking (look at 21 year olds, they're barely mature enough too). It's not right for a 16 year old to get his license and go out to the bars on the same day. It's already bad enough they cannot drive sober.
