Personally, because my computer is the core of my music studio, I have to be concerned with its capabilities.
For me it's not so much a nerd type thing. I do play the occasional game here and there and my computer can definitely handle anything I put on it, but I place far more focus on latency issues in music production than I would toward stuttering video resolution during a video game cut scene.
