It was started by this guy who calls himself Lew. To post music related lists like 100 greatest guitarists among other lists, and eventually movie lists. They're not really good lists, just an excuse to boost traffic more than anything. I was one of the earliest members of the site, way back in 2004 around when it started getting really popular.
As the years went by, most of the original members left, but I stuck around. It got very dominated by indie kids, just about everyone is a mod now and nobody actually DOES anything, you could post 100 pages worth of goatse and tubgirl pictures and you probably won't even get banned if you're a popular enough member.
It's hardly a real music forum anymore. There's sections for every genre like with this forum but they're all dead except the one for indie and the music polls section, which is filled to the brink with retarded Radiohead polls as far as the eye can see.
It's a really awful website, why I've stuck around there so long I'll never know, it's embarassing at this point.
The reason I joined this forum in the first place was because I got banned from DDD for having a Hitler avatar (back when you could actually get banned for something), and so I found this forum and tried to start anew. Well I eventually got allowed back into DDD, and for a long time it was my #1 forum and this was #2.
And I dunno why, for the past few years it's been nothing but an annoyance, I can never have a decent conversation with anyone, I never learned anything, none of the posters got me into any new music, I gained nothing from my time there. All I did was argue with people and get personally insulted all the time.
I should have left way before I actually did. If I'm gonna waste my life on an internet forum, it might as well be one where I can actually talk to people without being bombarded with personal insults and unfunny 4chan memes.
