Yea, the only thing that's driven into weapon tactics in basic is accuracy, control, and accountability.
But when considering the fact that there's a platoon of guys with M-4's/M-16's all with up to 30 round magazines of ammo, plus at least a SAW gunner, and maybe a couple 50 cals up top sending rounds down range... there's less of an emphasis on detail.
Hehe

Man, we got our ass ripped if we fired one more or one less round than they told us to. The targets were random too, you didn't know when they were going to pop up. It's like a quick draw and shoot accurately type of drill. Which is good for ship-board applications.

We had pop-up targets from 50 to 300 meters at intervals. We didn't know which would pop up next, but they gave us a certain amount of rounds to qualify, and if we wasted all of them on a shitty 250, that was our prerogative. We'd just get our asses jumped for not qualifying, and possibly not graduate.
