Surely jeans just come up to your waist, while dungarees have a bib and shoulder straps; two different ítems of clothing. Just because they' re both usually denim isn't much reason for mixing up the terms. What's going on in Boston??

You don't call those overalls? Anyway, "dungarees" is kind of an old school word. People from Boston who are in their forties or younger don't use it.
