Ya but then you'd be locked into those notes. Bending and slurring allows you to dictate the notes instead of the fretboard doing it for you. That's probably the best thing I took away from my years of burying myself in Shawn's stuff. I'll bend and slur half and whole steps but more often that not I'll slip in some microtones along the way.

...you do realize that it essentially both triples the amount of notes that you could play on a standard guitar and allows you to bend, right?
