Let's be honest they were both kind of ****ty people by that point.

You're assuming there would be no conversation around it. Lots of people have NSA relationships and mutually beneficial casual agreements for this particular reason.

All of my boyfriends have started in an entry-level bed-warmer position lol

So men are pretty much just talking penises

I'm ok with that.

With all the random people now wearing Captain America or Justice League shirts who have almost certainly never picked up a comic book in their lives I can't help but feel culturally appropriated.

Just like [insert good metal album here]!

MicShazam 10-17-2018 12:53 PM

what is a sexiness guitar and where can I buy one?

MicShazam 10-17-2018 01:07 PM

I don't even disagree tbh.

There's a strong dork factor in most metal.

MicShazam 10-17-2018 01:15 PM

No coincidence that I think most of the really good metal bands are those that fall well outside of the norm.

Don't hate on us just cause you wish you were as smart as you are pretentious.

MicShazam 10-17-2018 01:23 PM

Pretentious but not very smart describes like all tech death lyrics I've ever heard. Also lots of other metal. Some sub-genres just double down on pretentious word saladry.

Here's a few of my favourites that in various ways don't sound like meat and potatoes metal:

Not many tbh. A lot of female singers in metal are either a low-cut shirt gimmick or terrible melodic metal faux-opera singers... with low-cut corsets, and for the most part they can't deliver harsh vocals as well as men so yeah.

This band is right on though.

You would probably like Girlschool. Heavy punk influence in their early days. The original single version of Take It All Away is basically a Ramones song.

The Batlord 10-17-2018 01:33 PM

Yeeeeaaaahhhh I don't know about elph and Girlschool. They are awesome though.

Honuorable mention:

Doughnuts - an all-girl group from Sweden that I think made only two short albums

MicShazam 10-17-2018 01:44 PM

Also kinda wanted to post Vuur, but didn't because I know for sure Elph wouldn't like them.
But I like their first album a lot although there was room for improvement and it was a bit bloated.
Feelt like a refreshing spin on prog metal.

Anneke Van Giersbergen's Vuur

Aren't desire and unrequited love common themes for him? That's pretty close to "boy's club frustration" imo.

I would say that I'm still in the process of trying to really appreciate that band. The songs don't quite stick for me quite like Vuur does or her solo albums (which are not metal but rather variants on alternative pop/rock). I have two albums with The Gathering and I like both, but I still haven't quite loved any of it. Maybe except the song "On Most Surfaces".

My favourite version of it is performed live with Vuur. ****ty sound quality on the video, but still somehow a more enjoyable version of the song than the one on the Gathering album it comes from.

Or it was just the style at the time when hard rock and metal didn't exist.
