What in particular though? Could be as simple as carrots or something, but I wonder how healthy that is for the animal.

There wasn't anything crazy in the food he fed the chickens. There was strong paprika, but he explained that chickens can't taste anything and wouldn't know the difference. If I was eating things off the ground, I would also prefer not to have a sense of taste.

A wandering mind is vastly more interesting than a focused one. Focused minds are for boring people who don't understand textured thoughts.

Totally disagree. I like life the most when I manage to feel really focused. I'm mostly kind of mentally distracted, sadly.

I loved Garfield as a kid, and still enjoy some of the comics today.

This is one of the best scenes in animation history, btw:

Holy **** thought I'm sitting here thinking about Calvin and Hobbes is the most important pop culture thing of my entire life and trying not to heave into my backyard as if that somehow won't be relevant but of course Calvin would be an alcoholic.

"Talk show hosts, political candidates, news programs, special interest groups... they all become successful by reducing debates to the level of shouted rage. Nothing gets solved, but we're all entertained."

How the **** can this **** continue when Calvin and Hobbes so succinctly made it all so stupid? Cause we really are so stupid I suppose.

MicShazam 10-14-2018 12:49 PM

^Love Calvin and Hobbes. I read all of those strips countless times as a kid. Some of it went over my head back then.

Unrelated, I came here to post this article about mind bending infinite universe stuff:

C&H is iconic indeed. Taught me as a kid not to have faith in adults and that some things are unjust and dont make sense and never will.

The Batlord 10-14-2018 01:41 PM

Taught me that being an abrasive, narcissistic weirdo makes you vastly more cool than all those milquetoast normies. I'm honestly not sure how my self-perception would have evolved without Calvin & Hobbes giving me a rare sense of validation.

Unitron 10-14-2018 03:46 PM

Yeah, I've always loved Calvin and Hobbes. It's one of the biggest instances of comedy being a lot smarter than people give it credit for, while also able to simply just be funny.

I used to have a ****load of Calvin & Hobbes books but now I can only find Something Under the Bed Is Drooling (pretty sure I still have The Days Are Just Packed somewhere). This will not stand.

I sold all of my C&H books many years ago (possibly a dumb move, but I did read them so many times that I still remember how many of the strips go if I read the first frame). I got one for very, very cheap at a sci-fi convention this year (a stand owner had it lying around for some reason), so that's cool.

The Batlord 10-15-2018 12:19 AM

Same on familiarity but reading a lot of these strips I've read many times over still makes me laugh. I don't know how many times I've read this one but earlier today it took me nearly a minute to make it past the second panel I was dying so hard. Know exactly how it would end only made it funnier.

I still have my C&H books, and actually started re-reading them after it had been several years since I read them last. Scientific Progress Goes "Boink" is probably my favorite collection of strips.

The Batlord 10-15-2018 12:39 AM

TBH as told by this meme were you viewing those men as human beings or as objects to justify yourself? I'm not an MRA but it does cut both ways.

can you objectify emotional intimacy?

The Batlord 10-15-2018 07:04 PM

If you're looking for emotional intimacy regardless of who you find it in because you simply want to find it in the same way that men want to find sexual intimacy regardless of who you find it in then yes. It disregards the person and is only concerned with your own fulfillment even if that fulfillment isn't in the best interests of those you look for it in.

Do you think it isn't possible to be an emotional vampire just as it is possible to be a sexual vampire?

that's a big if.

in the scenario you're describing of course that's vampirism, but i don't think that's what the meme is referring to. or at least that's not how i relate to it. there's no maliciousness involved.

Not malicious but the hypothetical woman would still be using men for validation. Which would be treating them like objects, no? As far as I can tell I wouldn't want to deal with either the men or the women being referred to in the meme.
