How so? You already admitted that your local Chinese food restaurants are of an inferior quality, i.e. similar to fast food chains like McDonald's. You've also admitted that you find the sauces to be "strong", despite most Chinese restaurants using relatively few spices when compared to other cuisines. And lastly, when criticizing Chinese food, the only critique you could come up with is that the meat dishes suck, which shows that you know almost nothing about the majority of Chinese cuisine, as it involves far more than just meat, meaning that you are basically just the kind of person that can't be bothered to look through the menu and orders the same crap every time.
Now stop trying to look down on one of the oldest and most well respected cuisines in the world just because you don't like the fast food version. Do you like noodles? You have China to thank. The earliest known examples of noodles have been traced back to there. Do you like pastries? Then you absolutely need to go to your nearest Chinese bakery and take a look at what they have: And if you like meat rather than sweet bean paste, then you need to drop everything and find a Dim Sum joint, so you can give these a try:

I don't eat noodles. Half of that post was you twisting words, same shit you did with JWB when you debated with him.
Best bit of that shit essay was when you posted this: Quote:

Sorry but you're missing the point of the original question.
Here's the major differences between the "tourist" Chinese food and the stuff the majority of the population eats daily. 1. Lack of seasoning. Authentic stuff isn't overly salty, sweet, sour, or hot. All you get is the taste of whatever ingredient you are eating. Although hot is the one spice that will jump out in some dishes because of the peppers used. Not because of condiments. Chinese restaurants add tons of seasoning to compliment the taste. 2. Because of overpopulation the Chinese eat everything. A regular meal is going to include all of the stuff that we'd throw out as trash. I've sat at a table trying not to throw up while watching a bunch of Chinese dudes chowing down on refuse. And they eat any and all greens. If it grows out of the ground, eat it. 3. Simplicity. Nothing fancy with standard Chinese cooking. Boil some water, start a fire, and cook it. One of the most surreal things I've ever experienced was a 'live' buffet in a hotel in China. You walked down the line filling your plate with living creepy crawly sh*t and then would flash cook it in the boiling Sterno pot sitting on your table. Again, no seasoning at all. And it was a high scale hotel. I'm not saying you can't find really awesome Chinese food in China. Peking Duck is my hands down all time fave. But if we're going to compare American Chinese food with the authentic Chinese food it's not the same at all. And Panda Express shouldn't even be in the conversation.

You're still here? Why? Either go out and try some legitimate Chinese food (Dim Sum joints and Chinese Bakeries are a good place to start), or don't. The choice is yours. Claiming that I "twist words" is completely irrelevant, since this is all just a matter of you critiquing something that you've never even really tried before. So stop worrying so much about my words, and either try it or be silent.

Hey Oriph, have you eaten legitimate? (sorry, I'm kinda really vested in this debate)

I've eaten western Chinese food, it is shit and not a patch on south Asian cuisine. Wing Yip HQ is in Birmingham, I've eaten at top Chinese restaurants in the UK. Chinese food is shit. Why ignore the spice point: Quote:
South Asian > Chinese. It's that simple. |

There are plenty of restaurants spread throughout the US that offer traditional cooking from foreign countries, and even if some of them do add a westernized twist they maintain the essential flavors which is the most important thing.
I don't see the difference between eating food in China vs eating food in the US made by a man who just moved here from China, it's still authentic. Idk about you guys but here in NJ we have Asian markets that are legit with good quality ingredients. |
