plus if everyone was a farmer then we wouldn't have as much time to dedicate to technology, which makes my life way more enjoyable than any hippie commune could ever hope to aspire to.

what i think needs to happen is basically they need to perfect AI and then build some automated governing system and create a robot dictatorship.

Programming, biological or mechanical, can be flawed. Even if you indeed created a robot dictator that knew only justice (can anyone say "Exciter"?), one small hiccup in it's logic, or really any sort of flaw, is all it'd take for it to decide to eliminate all of human existence. And there's also the matter of the programmer's bias influencing the machine.
