Then after just one drought,
everyone would eat all of their money,
and be sad that they didn't just have some non-perishable unit of currency.
And if you want something other than raw resources,
or something that can only be found outside of your commune,
you're out of luck.
And there's also the issue,
of one jerk getting greedy,
and killing everyone else for their crops,
and then using their abundance of currency to buy mercenaries,
and very easily becoming the dictator of the commune.
There is a reason,
that people gave up the barter system en masse,
namely, because it sucks,
and is more easily abused than any other kind of economy.
