The Dune series itself is honestly pretty damn good, but for various reasons it is hard to get the "feel" of it down visually. Alejandro Jodorowsky might have been able to pull it off, but alas...

I tried reading the second book but it at least started out way more boring than the first so I dropped it. You're saying I should give it another shot?

I think you should. The first three books are pretty solid actually. Their fingerprints are all over Star Wars, comics and a lot of the pulp sci-fi that emerged in the mid 70's through the 80's. Things get really whacky once they jump forward around 3500 years in God Emperor Of Dune (Book 4) though.

I often read about people who think that the fourth book was the very best.
For me, it was just a leap forward in the story - and a good one at that. The first six - really, that’s about all you really need. Herbert died soon after that, but I was able to talk with him for quite a while a few months before and got his signature (which is a kind of unusual thing for me to ask for). |

Hell yeah. It’s not like you’re going to die not having read thousands of better books. Keep on with the series you already know blows the ding dong.

I'm a genre nerd who loves sci fi and fantasy and Dune is a heavy hitter so why not give it another shot while I'm busy never reading Anna Karenina.
