Bro listen to that though seriously. It's probably about a woman he loves but it cuts my legs out from under me and makes me feel shame but also some kind of confidence about my relationship with my mother. Maybe it speaks to male/female relationships in general or just about people who are screwed up, I don't know, but it's beautiful and strokes your soul with kind fingers.

OH tell him he needs to listen to Townes Van Zandt!

I feel like if ennui is a word then that feeling should have a word too.

The original meaning of “ambivalence” had a stronger meaning back in the days when it was coined: “simultaneous conflicting feelings.” Tho, I’d probably call what you’re saying in your head at that moment, “situational dislocution.” There’s probably not a “proper” phrase or word for the emotional resonance, because that would be applying two separate descriptions where one is pretty overwhelming enough. Maybe you can make up something. Call it “suffering from imbroglio brain.”

How would you describe the opposite of an illegal alien? A thought has swum over the river to a foreign country without proper paperwork and Donald Trump doesn't know what to do.

I don’t think he’ll get it.

It hurts me to think that anyone wouldn't get Townes Van Zandt. He's a complete basket case who somehow understands everything.

TVZ is tops, confirmed.

elph almost never steps out of his box musically

I mean I don’t get how you could like Daniel Johnston but not Townes. A great song writer is a great song writer. But I don’t see how you can like Daniel Johnston and not The Beach Boys. Masters of melody are masters of melody. But elph likes things that fit a very limited mold that confines music to a very limited time and space and doesn’t challenge his image of himself. His taste in music is almost identical to that of the Dead Heads at the end of the Grateful Dead’s career or even worse more like a Dead Head that latched onto Phish instead. Obviously, he likes music much better than Phish but the identity tie-in is very similar and so is his unlikeliness to venture into other genres.

But to each his own. The music he does like is good.
