I love Jeoy DeMaio as a member of Manowar but in any other band he would presumably be intolerable, both musically and personality-wise.

You think? I mean, there was little to no bass in the album but the songwriting was there. I'd go with Reload as their first really bad record. Though The Black Album and Load come close.
