There are tons of skype and discord communities you can easily get involved in.. might be easier to play with strangers.

Check to see if there are any game shops near you. A lot of them will feature a night or two for running DnD games for all skill levels. There's a few around here anyway that do that.

Yeah we have a comics/game shop that hosts events. It's just always a bunch of batlords there.
