1. Just for religious cultural things or cultural things in general?
2. I mean if you want people to exist or be willing to exist in a world without human made things to inspire awe and wonder then we might as well be actual automatons, no? Part of my idea about a lack of free will is that humans can't actually live truly as if they have no free will because then they have nothing. Existing without monuments to look up to and stare at will be one less thing we have to give our lives aesthetics and texture (hard to put abstract concepts into words but I hope you get the gist of what I'm trying to say). We need things to distract us from nothingness whether it be books, music, or some pretty church.

It's been remodeled before so it's not like it was entirely original even a few days ago. So long as it looks like what people think Notre Dame is supposed to look like they'll suspend their disbelief.
