Also kinda wanted to post Vuur, but didn't because I know for sure Elph wouldn't like them.
But I like their first album a lot although there was room for improvement and it was a bit bloated.
Feelt like a refreshing spin on prog metal.

Oh yeah and The Gathering were pretty cool as I recall.

Orbison is fair and precious music that's why he's default the best big rockabilly act ofc

wouldn't say the emotions of his music are frustration and certainly not anger

Aren't desire and unrequited love common themes for him? That's pretty close to "boy's club frustration" imo.

Did you check out Gorguts yet?

I could see you maybe digging some Godflesh tbh.

I would say that I'm still in the process of trying to really appreciate that band. The songs don't quite stick for me quite like Vuur does or her solo albums (which are not metal but rather variants on alternative pop/rock). I have two albums with The Gathering and I like both, but I still haven't quite loved any of it. Maybe except the song "On Most Surfaces".

My favourite version of it is performed live with Vuur. ****ty sound quality on the video, but still somehow a more enjoyable version of the song than the one on the Gathering album it comes from.

Or it was just the style at the time when hard rock and metal didn't exist.

But was he a true Scotsman?

It especially doesn't fit if you equate frustration with aggression or anger.
