Deadpool originated in the early 90s. That series is from 1997 so the art was definitely of the time period, which is one of my least favorite comic art periods. It's like they went so far in the other direction from grim and gritty early/mid-90s art that they went too far and ended up with lame, cartoonish designs and garish coloring. I put up with it in that series though cause it's... fine, and the story is so good that it would be petty to hold the art against it.

Definitely not great artwork, but story comes first.
I'm not as into this kind of thing as you are, but man, I still remember a lot of 90's super hero stuff that was really tasteless. I remember reading some of those Lobo comics back in the 90's... pointless, tastelss, "grimdark" violence and no story to speak of. And garish artwork. Not to mention that Rob Liefeld actually earned a lot of money back in the 90's... what the **** was anyone thinking?
To be fair though, good things were of course made too in the 90's.
