Does anyone know if any artists or bands have ever made an album in their peak and then kept it hidden until decades later?

Was thinking how it'd be good if an album dropped from some legendary band who recorded it and decided to release it years later.

Can't really think of it happening.

I’ve heard that Pearl Jam is doing that.

Record labels kept outstanding recordings by Hendrix and Coltrane in the vaults for decades.

Dylan’s bootleg series has the best stuff he ever recorded on it. Released decades later.

So what's their excuse for the rest of their discography?

Yeah

I’m no big fan myself

Don’t think they’re awful either

The idea that they’re pocketing hit songs because fame was so inconvenient

I don’t know. Eddie Vedder always seemed pretty Bonoish to me

These are big riddims.

I was thinking about it before.

If it came out that there is some hidden Beatles album that didn't get released in the mid 60s and next thing you know it's on iTunes for pre order, guys would explode. I was actually thinking about a reunion to start off with but no chance now two of them are dead.

Then I thought of bands or artists at the height of their fame making an album, artwork etc, finishing it then shelving it with the intention of releasing it thirty years down the line.

Not talking B Sides or bootlegs or anything like that.

I get what you’re saying and realize my examples aren’t like that.

I know it’s not the same as you’re saying but Beach Boys - Smile comes to mind.
