my understanding was that it converts songs you listen to to their filetype, and that if you buy songs off itunes youre stuck with them as that filetype. which doesnt play on windows media player, for example.
i guess im wrong - doesnt change the fact that i dont fucking like ipods |

no, mp3s are just fine (you can download in that format as well). the aac format is used by iTunes to better suit the iPod video. that and they don't have a license from Microsoft to support wma files.
it's just competition between two companies, i don't see why anyone should give enough of a fuck to pick a side.

Iv had a classic 80 for a while and trading it in for a 120 soon. Wouldn't go with anything else since I can play any file type through Winamp (which syncs and organizes) and download private software that changes ipod menu system to a more classic older by folder style.

I don't like Ipods either, call me elitist but music's a personal thing for me and i wouldn't want the same music player as everyone else. That and those earphones are a travesty.
I'm happy with my £9 1GB little thing which was the cheapest option in Argos. |

Zune 120GB for me. I had the first-gen 30GB and then upgraded about a year ago. The device itself is perfect, the software a little less so, but I use MediaMonkey anyways so it doesn't really matter. The only thing I wish the device had is last.fm support, since at the moment only the plays I listen to on my computer with MM count.

30g Zune here...the software gives me nothing but trouble. I used to have a 4g Samsung that I could hook up to any WMP on any computer and put music on it. I loved that thing so much. Just wish they made them with more capacity.

30 gig classic which desperately needs to be upgraded. First generation of the video iPod, got it right when they came out. As for the people who hate on iPod/iTunes, it's great user friendly software... quit being a twat.
