My Friend a Musical Ass Bag
I have this friend who whenever I tell him about music he pretends to act like he know a lot and spouts random garbage whenever I speak to him, this pisses me off so much because he pretends to have expansive knowledge of the entire genre of bands I tell him about yet only barely knows about the small number I do tell him about. Here is an example of what I mean, here is a facebook conversation I have had the misfortune of having with this arrogant sack of ****. I would like to mention I am 1000% sure he has never heard one song by crass, except for the one on some facebook punk quiz he cheated on that was one of the questions, and the douche bag boasted about how he is soooo into punk, and that he only used his mp3 to help him. He also got UK subs from that facebook quiz. He said that he just found the songs on his Mp3 but i know its bs because he only punk bands he listens to are Bad Religion, NOFX, Sum 41, and Pennywise. I could barely contain myself when he said that the UK subs sounded like "a cross of crass the clash and .... the raincoats and steve jones", i will admit that I have only heard 4 songs by them but all he did was say they sounded like 4 random bands I have talked to him about, and when I disagree he says he simply says has a "strange outlook" and "thats just how i preseve them", if by strange outlook he meant deaf dumb arrogant compulsive piece of **** than yes, he does have a strange outlook.
Sorry in advance about the horrible grammar in this I was just po'ed when writing it. I am Michael in this convo Taran: oh and btw you like crass too? 7:53pmMichael yeah my favorite album is penis envy and their crassmass 7" 7:54pmTaran nice nice 7:54pmMichael ppl always expect anarchist punk to like screamo for some strange reason, really wierd 7:54pmTaran i like bata motel for some reason lol 7:54pmMichael its a good song great lyrics I like the female vocals, wish more of their music had female vocals. 7:56pmTaran i know but here still good like even without her 7:56pmMichael punk is dead is great song too 7:59pmTaran also true lol if you like that you should listen to badreligions self titled album its rad lol 7:59pmMichael not to fond of bad religion I find a lot of that kind of punk boring Taran ure wierd you know of the uk subs? 8:06pmMichael naw who are they 8:06pmTaran there like a cross of crass the clash and .... the rain coats and steve jones lol there really weird sometimes 8:07pmMichael lemme check out some songs 8:09pmMichael I don't really see it, they seem more like a traditional 70s british punk band 8:09pmTaran thats just how i preseve them i usually have a strange outlook on bands like normal punk to me is all nofx or pennywise because ive listened to them for so long 8:12pmMichael but i mean that they sound like traditional 70s british, im not saying they sound like just punk thats not really sufficient information as there are so many sub-genres 8:13pmTaran what song did you listen to? 8:13pmMichael 4 hmm new york state police cocaine and warhead can't remember the other one 8:15pmTaran tomorrows girls? maybe? its one of there singles 8:16pmMichael they sound little bit oi too 8:16pmTaran have you noticed the slits vocals are really close to the yeah yeah yeahs in some songs? 8:17pmMichael i don't think so at all, Ari up has a british/Jamaican accent pretty sure they don't really have much common ground which songs? 8:18pmTaran i know what boys like and maps 8:18pmMichael that isn't by the slits not even close is it some kind of obscure cover? 8:19pmTaran i dont know perhaps that would explain alot if it was 8:20pmMichael How the hell did "i know what boys like" ever sound like "maps"? From there he didn't say anymore thankfully. |

Ugh. One of my friends is like this. Even though he listens almost exclusively to Screamo, he'll try to bs about **** with bands that I listen to. I call him out on it though. He'll always pull the "Yeah I used to listen to them a couple of years ago..." Pisses me off. I don't know why people try to do this.

Maybe I'm weird, but music has never really had anything to do with any negative discourse I've had with friends.
Honestly, last time I remember discussing favorite bands with friends was when I was like 14...

You grow up and realize what you actually like, and other people's input becomes insignificant because it wouldn't matter what they thought anyway. I definitely don't need validation when it comes to my musical tastes. But I can look retrospectively and see that I did when I was a little shit. Edit: Recommendations, OTOH, are nice. It's like someone letting you know there's a discount on 12-packs of your favorite beer over at the local 7-11.

I have a weird relationship with people regarding music.
When it's people I know in real life, on a very personal level, then it really doesn't matter what their tastes are. But when it's the internet, then for whatever reason, it becomes increasingly difficult to get along with people who don't share my tastes at least to some extent. Just ask Ethan. |

Generally, I don't like people who treat a taste in music simply as something that add inches to their d*cks. It just seems dishonest to me.
