The elevators in those type of buildings are usually high tech and well maintained they have different safeties to keep the elevator from just plummeting.
Very true, although the knowledge of a particular elevator being safer than another doesn't always keep me from getting jittery
I rode in one in a three-story parking garage recently that creaked and pinged and shuttered as it operated

It was very unfabulous

if an elevator like that drops....you just have to time your jump right and you'll be fine.

or you might just get stuck in there and hope you don't have to stay in there over the weekend.

Those are all pretty well founded fears. Two are not unlikely and one is inevitable.

Mine is getting a paper cut on my eyeball. Deep and right across the iris and pupil.

I know I'm not the only one who thinks about these things but I do feel like a lot of people get behind the wheel, and they think they're invincible or something, or that nothing bad can happen to them because "those things happen to other people, not me". That mentality is why some people just really suck at driving.

It's so extreme for me that I just about lose my mind if the person in front of me swerves just a little bit. Especially if they do it a few times. Ugh.
