Mothers Day

What are you guys doing on Mothers Day? I'm thinking about going and getting her some flowers for the flower bed. She really likes that. Then I might go get a card and take her to dinner. Should be fun.

Thrice 05-08-2009 08:53 AM

I havent talked to my mom in years, but I'm going to get my daughters mom a Pandora bracelet from the both of us, shes been talking about it for a while now. I'll probably whip up a nice fancy dinner as well, and have some chocolate covered strawberries and some Stela Artois for the after party.

Seltzer 05-08-2009 09:06 AM

I'm going to boycott the commercial sham side of Mother's Day this year and simply give my mum a call.

coryallen2 05-08-2009 11:19 AM

Nice ahha

sidewinder 05-08-2009 11:44 AM

I didn't get a card early enough to send overseas. :( I suck at being a son. I would have liked to take her to brunch or something, but she's like 6-7 thousand miles away. So it'll have to be a call.

coryallen2 05-08-2009 11:46 AM

LOL. Your not a bad son... Your a terrible son. No but really I think she would rather hear your voice.

sidewinder 05-08-2009 11:49 AM

Yeah who needs a piece of paper with glitter.

coryallen2 05-08-2009 11:50 AM

LOL. Now if she lived next door to you and would never leave you alone... That's when you need a card.

pahuuuta 05-08-2009 12:03 PM

you make some of the most pointless threads i must say

coryallen2 05-08-2009 12:04 PM

Well when mothers day is this weekend... Ya know I might ask what you guys are doing... Is that a sin?

coryallen2 05-08-2009 12:05 PM

And you have some of the lamest comebacks I've ever read... In my life.

pahuuuta 05-08-2009 12:39 PM

when have i ever used a come back against you i would consider that as a insult if anything. how did you do in school is your IQ your age? not trying to be an ass but really

crash_override 05-08-2009 12:54 PM

buying her a massage gift certificate.

LoathsomePete 05-08-2009 01:09 PM

I got my mum a 100 dollar gift card for Borders bookstore the other day.

pahuuuta 05-08-2009 01:11 PM

i made my mom a card with maccaroni glued on it.

Ohh good one, I got one for the spa last year after me and the old lady had the baby, she ended up taking me along. We sat in a whirlpool, ate chocolate strawberries and drank champagne, then got a massage, it was killer, ask your mom to take ya!

TumorAttitude 05-10-2009 08:32 AM

Flowers. But I'm allowed to be lazy. First off, I'm a selfish teenager. Second off, she only wants "intangiable things that money can't buy". Third off, she's too thrilled with her new boyfriend to really be concerned with much else. Its amazing. I could ask her for drug money and she would reply, "How much?"

Yesterday we decided to beat the mothers day crowd and went to have our Mothers day dinner early at Steamboat Bill's.
Best Cajun food outside of Lousiana.

savannah 05-10-2009 06:40 PM

i sent both my mom,...and my new step mom,....a text message

Freebase Dali 05-10-2009 08:05 PM

Well, last night my dad got bit by a copperhead snake and is in the hospital for treatment.. so my mom's mother's day gift is a few days of peace and fucking quiet.

I also bought her some crawfish.

Yea they've been lacking a little.
They're just starting to get big right now. A little later than usual. The batch we got today had some monsters in it finally. A couple weeks ago all we could find was medium to small.

At least the prices dropped after Good Friday rolled by.

Nice.
Live, right?
Cause no matter what you do, you can always make 'em taste better than the pre-cooked outlets.

One thing I'm adamant about is using Zatarain's crab boil (liquid) when I'm boiling crawfish. It's an absolute necessity. Salt, obviously. Throw in some potatoes, corn on the cob, Onions, a little garlic, and after they're boiled let 'em soak for at least 20 minutes.

Epic drools.

east texans

i'm damn near a coonass

cheezyridr 05-11-2009 12:30 AM

maybe a bit late, but maybe i can save someone a little for next year.

don't be one of those lame @zzes that goes to the flower shop at the last minute with $50 and expects the world. people like my wife, who make your arrangements, have to work the holiday because of people like that.
go early, and spend at least $100. then the designers won't hate you, and mom will refer to you as "the good son"

Seltzer 05-11-2009 02:28 AM

Anyone read up on the history of Mother's Day? Read the intro then skip to Criticism.

This is why I have trouble taking it seriously.

Scarlett O'Hara 05-11-2009 09:41 PM

I don't see anything wrong in reminding your mom how much you care for her and appreciate her. I bought my mom some books and chocolates. :)

Seltzer 05-12-2009 01:43 AM

Well I gave my Mum a phonecall in the end and I would have made her something if I wasn't a complete klutz when it comes to arts/crafts. But I made an effort to avoid fuelling the Mother's Day bonanza.

EDGE 05-12-2009 03:46 AM

I'm currently 3,000 miles away from my mother, so I sent her a card and a bunch of stuff from Lush. I wanted to keep some of it for myself, but I was strong enough to hold back :)

TheBig3 05-12-2009 04:05 AM

I was going to take her to dinner but it became a family thing so I ended up cooking for everyone.

simplephysics 05-12-2009 05:53 AM

I bought my mom flowers and a new bird feeder, and my brother took us all out to a sushi restaurant, then I spent the rest of the day lying in bed with a terrible headcold, she did her motherly duties and took care of me. :D

Haha I love how Mother's Day represented your mother looking after you. But it shows that's how much she cares. Bless her.

did you mean "commercialization?"

She sounds like a dope to me. Got her nose in some moral issue, didn't like the way it went in the hands of the unwashed masses. Blew her fortune on whining about it.

Whatever.

Agreed. None of us may like it, but its happened with every other holiday as well. Comes with the territory of living in America, or any other developed country for that matter.

LoathsomePete 05-15-2009 11:05 AM

I don't know if it's commercialization as much as Mother's Day is slowly starting to fall into the same category that Valentine's Day and Earth Day fall into. That being the one day where you're suppose to do something you should do everyday. Now for me I live with my mom and stepdad again after 3 years of being on my own so I can go to school, so I'm extremely grateful for not having to pay rent, laundry, buy food etc. Not everyone has this same situation, but still I mean... a call every now and then won't kill you. The second Sunday of May shouldn't be the only day you tell your mom that you love them just like February 14th shouldn't be the ONLY day you tell your boyfriend or girlfriend or husband or wife that you love them and just like April 22nd shouldn't be the only day you care about the planet.
