For sex to really be something special you have to connect with you partner on an intimate level. Otherwise if you're having sex just for the sake of having sex there is a tendency to be underwhelmed, sometimes anticipation of sex ends up being the most exciting part. I don't know if that's the case with you or not but from what I've found that can sometimes be the case. It depends on the person really.
