Which ones? The enterobius?

You don't have to go to the doctors if you get them. At least here, all you have to do is go to an apothecary and buy some pills. You take one and they die. Then you take another one some weeks later. It's a standard worm cure against a range of parasites.

They are very common, especially in children and whole families with little children. We call them "children worms" here (barnemark). They spread through dirty hands, contaminated water or - if your infected ass itches and you scratch yourself and those hands end up near yours or someone else face .. This can happen even if you're not aware of it. You could scratch your bum during the night while you sleep! Still, you have to realize that your body is already a host to all sorts of organisms. If you have those worms and they're not a nuisance, then I don't think I would recommend treatment.

I'm way more grossed out by the possibility of getting tapeworms that way because the consequences are so much worse, but I included the enterobius basically because they are so common that if you don't have them and lick someone's butt, then you are putting yourself at real risk of getting them. They're just a nuisance though and getting rid of them is easy peasy.

I knew people could catch worms, but I never knew how, or what the symptoms were. I'm paranoid, I don't want worms in my ass Seems sorta grotesque.

edit: but cheers, that was actually insightful haha.

This is a bit off-topic, but ..

The reason I wouldn't recommend treatment if parasites are no real trouble is that there are some studies that show that certain parasites alleviate allergy symptoms. The hypothesis explaining it says that many parasites lower our immune systems. They sort of turn it down a few notches. We humans have evolved to cope with a certain parasite load and without them turning down the volume on our immune systems as it were, some of us get a bit hyper reactive - some of us get allergies.

So basically, people with parasites have less allergy. This is something shown in studies and there's also a more recent human experiment with hook worms that show that infecting yourself with hook worms can have really good effect on most allergy symptoms if not all. The goal is of course to isolate the protein(s) the hookworms produce to create this effect and create some sort of anti-allergy medication, but that will take a while.

Medicines which kill the "children worms" may also kill a range of other parasites and so if someone isn't bothered by them, I wouldn't advise taking medication just to get rid of them! Although I may be going out on a limb here, I'm guessing such treatments could worsen allergy symptoms for people with allergies!

So you may want to cope with some worms in your ass after all

What about people who already have low immune systems or immune system disorders? I'm totally scared about worms in my ass now. I know that our bodies are probably full of different organisms but just reading the detail of it made me squirm!

If I had a poor immune system, then I wouldn't worry about medications against parasites Who knows? Treatment might do some good then.

I know people think they're gross and they are I guess. As different sorts of parasites have been part of my biology courses, I've sort of come to terms with the thought of stuff living on or in me and so that itself doesn't creep me out. It's when they cause problems I get worried!

Ha, out of non thread related curiosity, have you ever had to do a genital piercing say a male apradavya (sp) or anything really?

Ps, how would a Jacobs ladder affect sex? Looks more complex during sex than the average PA
