It will if you dont have any feelings for the other person and visa versa, if its just sex n thats it, it'll work, as soon as theres feelings involved, friends with benifits will not work. Thats at least what Ive found out from personal experience.

It can go both ways. For me, I learned more about my friends.

With one of my friends I had sex with, I just realized how much more of a selfish person she was. And I had no desire to be friends with someone like that in the first place.

With another one, I realized we were able to become closer. We joke about it sometimes, and other time we use it to try to figure out what her boyfriend is doing wrong. xD
