First off, i'm not trying to get anyone here to hate me, this is just an opinion.
Why do so many people consider classical music to be so great? It seems like everyone gives a ton of credit to older music, like metallica, led zepplin, black sabbath etc. But i don't see what is so good about it. Yeah, it is good music don't get me wrong, but i don't see how anyone can stand to listen to a whole sabbath album and say it is freakin EPIC. Yeah, everyone has different tastes, but for kids like myself who weren't around in that era of music, since the style has changed drastically, i just can't see why so many people like it so much. Personally, i think most classical music is good, but i don't consider it great anymore. Maybe 15 years ago it would fly, but now days it just sounds so boring.

Oh wow, Led Zeppelin > You.
A lot of the groups of today would be nothing without the influence of classic bands. You don't have to be alive in a certain era to like the music so that's a pretty stupid thing to say. A lot of older music is better than what we have to hear today. Just think about it. There were no Jonas Brothers back in the day. I wonder what that was like. Probably a pretty happy time.

There were no artificially created pop acts back then, but there were certainly similar bands and styles, there just wasn't anything else to counter balance it like we have today to show what crap it is.
Older music has survived through the times much like the way older literature has, mostly by popularity. Notice that the more popular classic bands you see today were the ones that were popular back in the day. It's the same big ones, The Who, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc. but you don't see a huge influx of younger people listening to some of the lesser known bands like Television or 13th Floor Elevators, that had a cult following when they were in their prime, still have now. |

fine then, i respect your opinions. But what makes the beatles so good ( for example )? Everybody is like, yeah the beatles are one of the best bands ever!! Why, i don't see anything great about their music. Good and pleasant to listen to......yes, but off the scale greatness? I don't think so.
Basically what i am wondering, is the same thing some metal fans wonder. Why would someone like metalcore? But the difference is i don't literally call the **** i listen to epic, great or see it as a set standard of music in any way. I just like it.

...but metalcore sucks and classic rock doesn't. Bands like the Beatles wrote music that reflected on the times and their music influenced a lot of other bands. Metalcore is garbage and doesn't influence anyone so even mentioning the Beatles and metalcore in the same paragraph is totally unacceptable.
