I have no idea because I'm in Texas.

Obviously not, m'dear. It's just brewed in the town of Shiner, Texas.

Hmm, I thought maybe it was a specialty thing. I've only seen it in a certain market here.

A coworker recently went to the UP for the holidays and picked up a bottle of Bell's Wild One Ale for me. Needless to say, I was incredibly grateful and excited. This **** is some of the best beer you can get in the Midwest, bar none. Fermented in wooden barrels by wild yeasts then blended by Bell's brewers to taste to produce a unique product each batch. This **** is darker than your average ale with a bit of a rosy hue and burgundy tone. Vanilla, granny smith apple, smoke, bourbon, and oak notes and the perfect amount of hop flavor comes through at the end.

That is one hell of a score. I was lucky enough to get one in trade about a year back. An excellent beer with all the right notes indeed. The reviews have always been outstanding also, virtually nobody on the net with bad feedback.

Stone Collaborations - Evil Twin / Stillwater / Stone "The Perfect Crime" Black Smoked Saison

Stepping away from Ipa's for a few weeks. The cold weather has me thinking stouts but this Black Saison sounds tempting. Gonna buy a couple of these and finish off with a Vanilla Porter i have aging.

Cost me nearly $10 for the one 650mL bottle and was worth every penny. Can't wait to try the Mokah tomorrow night.

I want to try that Shiner beer. I'm curious.

https://untappd.s3.amazonaws.com/pho...d1_320x320.jpg

I had this one recently and I really want another. I cant find a picture of a pint of it but its a dark porter, brewed with fairtrade coffee beans, and is a little chocolatey. It's very dark and I was assuming it would be very thick and heavy but its actually a little lighter than anticipated and goes down very well. Very nice beer from a great local brewery, Mordue.

Sounds tasty. I'm gonna delve into a Belgian Tripel tonight. Russian Rivers Damnation 23. Its barrel aged and sounds delicious. Bob get on this one, its winning awards in the craft brew field.

Samuel Adams Winter Lager

I've never been a big Sam Adams fan, but I'm really enjoying this lager.

What exactly is lager?

A beer that is fermented at a really low temperature.

LoathsomePete 12-13-2012 05:50 PM

A type of beer that's usually brewed at lower temperatures and usually has a lighter golden color.

bob. 12-13-2012 05:51 PM

cold fermented beer

edit

FUCK YEAH!

edit 2

most lagers also use certain strands of yeast called....lager yeast which thrive in colder temperatures......sometimes brewers use these yeast strands in higher temperature fermentation....which is where we get "steam beer" from

brewing beer changed my life

presently drinking an Icky :)

5.6%

A little higher than I'm use too. I've been smoking too much pot cause I've only had 3 of them in the last hour and a half now I'm already feeling a little too buzzed to want to start chopping up onions and garlic for dinner.

I should go back to drinking stouts all winter like I did in 2007

Thats the same as a Sierra Nevada. Don't step up on that black tuesday i posted its coming in at a kidney shattering 18 percent. I'll probably end up in bed peeing on my girlfriend or something, pray for me guys. :p:

LoathsomePete 12-13-2012 05:58 PM

I fucking abhor Sierra Nevada, it's especially annoying how people here treat it like a local brew even though it's made in Chico California.

with unfiltered water no doubt. Its acceptable on occassion, but i get your point. Adios guys have a good one.

LoathsomePete 12-13-2012 06:01 PM

I didn't mean it to sound overly aggressive, I just really dislike that beer. I remember in 2010 I saw Enslaved play and the bassist/ vocalist did a toast to everyone, took a swig and then spat it out, but not ina "fuck you! METAL \m/(>_<)\m/" kind of way. It was more of a "oh god the horror... the horror" kind of way which I could totally sympathize with.

What? Sierra Nevada has some very solid brews, especially their IPAs .

It's not as good as some of the pricey micros I've had, but still very good.

Nah it sounded fine Pete. I don't find you aggressive ever, I just take it as a strong opinion about this maker of beer, and I often find myself reacting the same way about beers in general.

I gave my buddy a $20 and had him go into a liquor store, he asked what I wanted and I told him to suprise me. What does he come out with? A $9 six pack of Sierra Nevada. I about punched him in the nuts.

A lovely dark ale but it has a chocolate aftertaste which I am not keen on but decent enough.

FRED HALE SR. 12-18-2012 10:13 AM

Having a taster at a friends tonight. Lots of great brews being popped including Knuckle Sandwich, and a few assorted barrel aged brews. I'm bringing a barrel aged Vertical Epic, i've been hoarding since I got it in trade about three years back. 2007 was my favorite year of Vertical.

Picked up a bottle of this from Total Wine the other day, so far I'm really liking it, far better than the Lagunitas Cappucino Stout I had yesterday.
