Do you know what "troll" even means? I'm trying to get this thread steered towards a semi-constructive argument while you spit out things like "The Beatles > You" or "Led Zeppelin owns your soul" or "Today sucks because the Jonas Brothers exist."

I think a big part of it is that they laid out a big part of the foundation for music today. Music today wouldn't be what it is without those bands, because a lot of music today is just trying to recreate what was done then.

Personally, I like all kinds of music, but I most certainly don't think older music is "boring" by any means, and by dismissing it as such because it doesn't have whatever "flash" current music has is robbing yourself of the joy that music can bring. Music can be timeless to me. Sure, whatevers on the radio nowadays may be more "advanced" in some sense, but it fails to reach heights that I feel were reached with music from older time periods. If the emotional weight of the music touches me, that's what matters. I don't want gimmicks, I want heart. That cannot be defined by time period.

I was planning on writing much more, but it's quite late and I can't stay up, so I'll make a much better post on the subject in the near future.

If it hurts you so much to read it, put me on ignore. No matter what I say in any thread, you're always right behind to say something ignorant.

Hush, hush everyone. This is only going to lead us to a locked thread, or something else that surely won't do us any good. If you don't have anything positive to add, it would probably be best if we chose to not further the negative.

Ok I, like Blue, will enjoy music from any time period as long as it does the right things for me. I usually like rock and roll, but not stuff that is to heavy or hectic. I've also been in to some trip hop lately. I don't enjoy rap (usually) or metal, but I understand that people do like it, and there's nothing I can do about it. I used to openly dismiss such music, but realize that that was stupid. Even among genre's you don't care for, there are acts that are better and more important, such as Public Enemy vs. Soulja Boy. Who knows, I may end up liking some metal or rap in the future. A year ago I wouldn't be caught dead listening to Portishead, now I love them. Hell, 5 or so years ago I probably would have called Radiohead crap haha.

Influence shouldn't matter. It doesn't help them sound better.

I think people give older bands more credit than they deserve because of the fact they influenced tons of people, which is one of the reasons i made this thread in the first place.

And i still can't see why the beatles are so great, besides their influence on the whole world, lol

I don't really like the Beatles either so I can relate to that. But you have to understand that dismissing music just because it's older than you is dismissing most music. Why would you want to have such a narrow focus? And what are you going to do in 15-20 years when the bands you like now are all old? Are you going to suddenly start thinking they suck?
