You guys still have those people over there?
I remember When I first started posting here 4 yrs ago many of the British members would always refer to some loser-types as chavs (sp?). I became very obsessed with this particularly grimey sub-culture and no matter how much people tried to explain them to me I never quite got it.
I have noticed that noone really mentions chavs anymore. Have they deevolved out of the culture like some grotesque darwinian model of natural selection or has everyone just gotten over them? And if anyone would still like to attempt to explain these people to me I'd love, still, to understand this remarkable example of the denigration of British culture. |

But what's the unifying principle of this group? That's what I'm trying to figure out. Socio-economic, ethnic, political etc. Do they all just like fake tans, verically striped shirts and making shadow puppets of butterflies? Do you know what I'm asking? Someone didn't just one day say" hey you look like a sleazy oompa loompa just like me. Lets be Chavs and cavort like heinous dirtbags!" This is what I'm getting at.

Do you know New Jersey well? My Atlantic City example kind of assumed that you did. I kind of take Jersey familiarity for granted because I lived in Philly for a long time. |
