So i should be aware of the existence of people who i've never seen, heard or met? Please fill me in on your secrets.

That's the scariest part... when you "feel fine" most people don't want to make a scene by going to the hospital... I probably would've been tough about it too unless I could feel something was really wrong.

Regarding helmets... I've skied since I was 5 and never wore a helmet...but I think it's a lot easier to learn when your a kid and lower to the ground... for an adult just learning, I think it's definitely a good idea to wear one bc that's when you are at most risk for falling.

Become aware that there are, in fact, people that exist... Then just become aware that a large number of those people die every day. You don't have to know them personally or even know their names. The fact that so many people die, regardless of whether you know who they are or not, is a little more devastating than one chick living in Hollywood that you've seen on TV.

I'm not diminishing her death, but I'm not about to say she's more important than any other lifeform.

Probably. It's still a sad story though, no matter how famous she is or isn't.

ETA: Also, she's Vanessa Redgrave's daughter in addition to being Liam Neeson's wife.

Yeah, I suppose it is, but since I've never heard of her before today, I'd feel like a hypocrite to say I cared a lot. Sounds awful, but at least it's truthful. :\

I only say this because this is the third thread I've read on this today with people offering their condolences and wishing her peace and prayers. So yeah....:|

I don't think anyone's saying she is. It's just that this is a story that's in the news right now so people are aware of it and reacting to it. If you told me a similar story about some non-famous person I'd find it equally sad.

Yeah, I don't get the offering of condolences thing either. It's not like Liam Neeson is sitting around reading Music Banter.

Of course i'm aware of other people's existence. And it's true what you say, there is something wrong with the fact there are millions of people dying everyday yet they are just seen as a statistic whilst one 'celebrity' dying is a tragedy. Anyone with an ounce about them though realises 99.9% of deaths are a tragedy, and there are people that care about every single one of them. The only reason the death of a 'celebrity' is so documented is because, through the media, more people are aware of them, their successes and their failings.

Exactly.

It sucks when anyone dies but more people tend to pay attention when it's a famous person and more people will know them.

She left young two sons.
It's a tragic accident.

Where's the empathy?
