everyone likes eating food and rock music, theres yer hive. Waht Sam said, good sense of community down to a shared curiosity for new soundscapes, and an eclecticism in the case of most people. Within the regular posters. And i refute the claim that new posters are discouraged from joining by pretentious arseholes, they should just swallow it and get stuck in, it's just a stupid forum not the Spanish Inquisition

i'm not in it though, i love all kinds of music but i have this pop philosophy that i only really share with one person and they are made of flesh and bone. i might be talking to an artificial intelligence program disguised as a chat forum to study my behavior, for all i know

and nobody likes R. Stevie Moore. Oh and nobody likes grime (bar a few who know who they are!)
It was the first thread i started and those old posts do NOT read well. I let down the side

I don't think that the things we have in common are the hive. What makes up the hive mind is more attempts at excluding everything else. People bashing other's music tastes for example. Discussing why an artist is not as good as another makes sense since it's a forum. Saying "band X sucks and so do you for liking it" is just silly.

yeah well there are some young guns on here who get hotheaded but us seasoned pro's know there's nothing more pointless than Band Wars. Like the Beatles vs. Stones thread. *shudder* I like discussion and trying to convince people I am right (lol), but I am really guilty of milking the hyperbole and making sweeping statements when I'm in a bad mood, so sorry about that. I just find it easier than intelligent discussion. And people can't always tell when i'm being facetious so sorry about that too. What were we talking about again?

^I'm also guilty for that although I like to think I only do it rarely. At least I try to state that it's an opinion instead of claiming that band X sucking is an objective truth - something I find to be annoying when done by others.

Did those acts build the house though? Because I think its ****ing bull**** if these "flaunt the DIY" **** bands don't actually do it themselves. Showing up with their facotry made equiptment, singing songs with hijacked Frank Sinatra lyrics and clothes they bought in a store.

They get on stage and used the same recycled bull**** ethos speech that they didn't even write themselves!

I love ya swimmy but these bands are HORSE****!

I know they're shit. I listen to like 20-50 poppy/pseudo hardcore/pop punk for little kids bands. I listen to them because it's fun and I just like it. I would never buy an album and I would never go to a show because of the kind of people who are into them. This probably means they have to come take my hipster badge away even though this makes up the tiniest part of my musical taste, le sigh. I wasn't calling any of the name dropped bands diy. Which is what leaves a little confused with your comments. I took it to mean that you think I like these bands because of their unwavering ethics. That is the most untruth. I like these bands despite my infatuation with bands that actually do have some dignity about them.
