Alcohol is wonderful for unwinding after a week of hard work at school. I don't care what any of the prudes say, it fucking helps. Now, the taste of your low-end college beers is awful, but once you have about 5 you don't even notice it anyways. Also, there are very few drinks, alcoholic or otherwise, that taste better than a good white russian.

The U.S. age laws are ridiculous for all the reasons mentioned above. If the U.S. didn't treat it as this taboo forbidden stuff then maybe there wouldn't be such an issue with it.

I bought a portable inflatable beer pong table a few days ago. You can use it in the pool.

I'm a very introverted person, so getting drunk is the only way to make going out bearable. Happily I'm a very reasonable drunk, I hate it when people become obnoxious or aggressive after drinking.

Obnoxious I don't mind because you can usually laugh at them... Violent drunks are my least favorite type of person ever though. I hate them and hope they die.

If people are becoming violent because of alcohol then there usually is a bigger underlying problem. To a sober person these people are generally abhorrent but Alcohol only exacerbates these problems and saying that they would hope they die is a statement of youth.

tbh if it wasn't for the fact that this taxable-drug was omnipresent in any given social situation I would probably classify myself as teetotal. I really don't drink anymore if I can help it. It's not so much that I have an addictive personality (which I do, poor self-discipline, whatever you want to call it), I just find the underlying desperation and implications of alcohol quite abhorrent.

At the risk of being called a buzzkill I keep these opinions to myself on nights out (a lack of these in recent years has given me the time to think ofcourse); and I'm partial to a couple of ales when seeing old friends simply because it's necessary to keep up with the self-inflicted good vibes.

I just don't like this compulsion everybody has to get out of their own heads... But such is life. You work, get drunk, seek a mate, repeat.

edit - I know it happens everywhere else but booze is more integral than most to life in Britain. 'opiate for the masses' would not be too gross an exaggeration. Also how annoying are drunk people when you are stone-cold sober? Very. Go and be louder than necessary over there please.

If it werent for drinking on the weekend, I dont think I could get through the full work week. I love beer, and as a canadian its expected. I also dont see why anyone cant like getting drunk. It serves two great purposes...liquid courage, and liquid panty remover. God Bless it.

yeah thats the classic buzzkill response, you aren't supposed to question alcohol, it's everywhere so just shut up and enjoy the sweet intoxication. Whatever keeps you docile

Honestly bless the millions slaving their guts out to make their mortgage, I would never begrudge them their right to get sh*tfaced.

I guess alcohol is so inexorably tied up with our history and society imagining it without booze is just a bit too outlandish for most.

For me, it was more of a personal choice. I got sick of how I acted when I got drunk. I was prone to acting unnaturally. I would drink until I was pretty hammered and then I would be a complete douche -- towards women and other dudes. I've learned to handle myself since then and I stopped trying to get ****faced every weekend. I still kick a few back but I look to have a good time rather than get drunk.

I have a great deal more success with women when I'm (moderately) sober. And they tend to look A LOT better too.

I'm quite large-framed (and no that's not code for fat bastard) so I was rarely able to get so drunk as to have a memory blank but when that happens, and you have to piece together what you did from witnesses, you really don't recognise the person they are describing. Quite scary. Like I said it's un-nerving how many people in this country haven't had a good weekend unless they've done that, it's the definition of 'abusing' a luxury/commodity. But yeah moderation is the way forward

edit - just incase anybody thinks I'm a preachy twat I'm also a massive hypocrite sitting here unable to stop chain-smoking. We're all being taken for a ride
