Now don't get me wrong, I love absurdism. Surrealism is my favorite movement. But Surrealism regardless of what it's critics say, certainly requires talent and untamed imagination as with any great art form.
I think art shouldn't be just a message, there needs to be something else, a narrative, a setting or some kind of emotional connection and it should also be anesthetically pleasing to look at. And really, turning a urinal upside down, randomly slinging paint on a canvas, pissing on a crucifix, pulling a scroll out of your vagina. Those sound like frat boy pranks, not art. To me. Love: Surrealism Expressionism Impressionism Post-Impressionism Realism Japanese Romanticism Mannerism Baroque Renaissance Neoclassicism Symbolism Cubism Fauvism American Modernism Art Brut Fantasy Lowbrow Neosurrealism Neoexpressionism Some Abstract (Kandinsky and Leger) Meh: Pop Art Dada De Stijl Hate: Abstract Expressionism Conceptual Art Stuckism Miminalism |
