MB Meeting at the Pub
 

Alright, this is an imaginary scenario. Every active member from the MusicBanter community are together at a pub somewhere. It's a relatively brown place and a jukebox is currently playing 70s and 80s rock hits in the background. Because there are a lot of people around and the selection in the bar is seemingly endless, you can basically choose whatever you like from drinks and discussion topics. So, what do you order from the bar? What topic are you discussing and who might you be talking to? Of course, you can choose to gravitate towards topics posted by other members in this thread.

Each post means something new from the bar and a new topic.

I'll go first :

Orders : Beer and a straight islay whisky (ardbeg, laphroaig, bowmore) - the killer combo.

Topic : The Canterbury Scene

My strategy at first will be to get some alcohol in me to make it a little easier meeting all these new people that I don't really know. Then I'd like to discuss the Canterbury Scene with someone, although I'm not quite sure who. Comus and Demonoid knows Carvan and I guess some of you english types might be up for it.

I would order a sex on the beach because I like fruity girly drinks.

Topic of discussion would be Jack Nicholson flicks.

I would be discussing this all with probably Urban, Jackhammer, RT, or MJ because they are old(er) and wise and they can crack some awesome jokes.

Knowing me and the nature of my hangouts, it'll probably be evening, in which case I would order a cold pint of Guiness from the tap and probably be engaged in a hilarious conversation at my end of the table, probably with Veronica Lodge and MURDER JUNKIE, because they're fellow Ontarians. We might also let Alfred in on the conversation, in which case we'll be discussing The Shape of Punk to Come.

I order nachos for everyone.

I ask if anyone would like to sing some karaoke with me. This being the Music Banter pub, the available selections in the big karaoke book are of course a thousand time better that the typical garbage found in karaoke books.

Orders: Ginger ale, Root Beer (because I'm underage)

Topic: Put a bunch of topics into a hat, and pull one out.

At this point, I think I'll have another beer and whisky, possibly a knockando this time.

Then I'll hang in the bar until I meet a fellow friendly newbie who wants to know where I'm from and what I do .. Of course, I end up mostly telling him or her about things I've experienced in the arctic (people are often curious about what life is like up here, so that happens a lot) and after a while, we end up talking about whaling or some other political stuff regarding Norway and possibly the EU.

The topic is not very bonding, but the likelyhood of it coming up is relatively high when meeting people from out of the country.

Crispy Coronas for me (lime top), Jack and Cokes if it comes to something heavier, Numb shots (Absinthe and Jager) if it comes to that.

I'd sneak booze in for my underage homies, probably have a chinwag with the older fellows and of course blag drinks off my adopted father Jackhammer :D

I would come stoned because I don't drink...I guess I would order a diet Dr. Pepper.

I'll bring my drum set and hijack some gear from my former band members. An all nite impromptu jam with anyone and everyone on this board that can play...and maybe I can drink this one nite. Gimme an Absolut on the rocks and a Bud Light.

And since this is hypothetical can we lower the drinking age for the younger members as long as they don't drive Tore?

Topic: How You Should Be Able to Smoke In Bars

with whoever'd like to join that conversation.

I actually quit smoking because they were banning smoking from pubs and restaurants in Norway. That's roughly 5 years ago now .. so I guess I could join you in that convo.

And I'd have a straight Fernet Branca and a coka cola on the side.

I don't smoke and even though it isn't proven I believe second hand smoke kills. Therefore I see it as a good thing smoking is banned. At the same time though, if people do want to smoke, I think smoking bars should be established.

I think you shouldn't be smoking around other people because it is rude but it should be legal. Just smoke privately...

and I drink tea.

^tea is awesome, I daresay I fancy a cup o' black tea with honey now 'n then.

Thank god they havent banned smoking in public places in Michigan. There have been talks......but if they do I'm utilizing the bar in my basement and charging outrageous cover.

i'd ride my bike past the pub and say to myself, "boy they sure are having a good time in there", and then i'd go home.

We'll get drunk off absinthe and do some karaoke.
