Anybody looking for great vegetarian food of middle eastern/mediterranean cuisine check this place out in orange county. I regularly get the veggie combo and its the best i've found. Baba ghanuj, hummus, grape leaves, falafel and tabbouleh on another level. Another really good outlet for vegans or vegetarians. I've been three times now and this place has some very gifted chefs. http://www.yelp.com/biz/happy-family...DvcxcL17jIY37A Last edited by FRED HALE SR.; 06-15-2011 at 02:33 PM. |

that's not a good analogy. A bear can't pick up a gun to defend itself against a human using a gun....all it's going to attempt to do is use brute force to rip his face off but some well placed shotgun shells would put the bear down or even a tranq. shot.

what makes us superior is our ability to use weapons though and take them down.

So when the aliens come with their superior technology and reasoning ability, you won't have anything to say when they disintegrate you?

who would want to fight a bear with their bare hands? i understand what you're trying to say but my mind tells me it does not make sense at all. Quote:
i got you but logically speaking, aliens is a bad comparison for the current discussion. you should be using a metaphor that's more realistic. but i do get your point. |

It doesn't matter whether or not it's realistic. I'm illustrating the point that your claiming that humans have the right to kill and eat animals because we are "superior" (whatever that means) is bull**** and merely arrogant self interest. If you really believed it, you would not at all be alarmed if aliens invaded. You'd just say, "Oh, ****! We've gotta do some-oh wait, nevermind. They're superior to us. Carry on then."

I expect The Virgin not to understand the point that no animal's purpose is to be eaten by a different species of animals (which is why they are poisonous, fight, hide, run away, are sometimes protected by spikes or shells and generally try to protect themselves from predators as best they can), but there are still some strange ideas running around this thread.
First of all, animals are not by default lower than us as in worse designed or inferior to us on some cosmic scale. We have to decide what we want to rank before we can decide what animals are lower than us. A bird may have more efficient lungs than we do and better eyesight too. Intelligence is not the only thing worth having. Second, people need to learn what breeding means. There are animals we eat. Many of them we've bred them for thousands of years to be as docile as possible so that we can kill and eat them with the least possible amount of effort, but these animals friendly behaviour is no longer natural. It's a consequence of selective breeding, not natural selection.
