Yeah, it's the same people that would dismiss a band for being "whiny." I'd love to see how metalheads would react if Kirk Hammet or someone came out.

One of my favorite musicians, Bob Mould, came out of the closet when I was teenager and hugely into his music. I didn't care one way or the other although suddenly I found myself noticing that all his songs about relationships had been written in gender-neutral language. I had never noticed that before I knew he was gay. Other than that nothing changed. I continued to love his music and still love it to this day, a decade and a half after he came out of the closet.

You mean someone like, say, Rob Halford.

Personally I think this is stupid, I would not care in the slightest if any of my favourite musicians came out of the closet. It doesn't change the music they make, or the music they have already made. I wouldn't have any kind of major reaction.

If anything it would increase my respect for them, that move, in this society, takes courage and confidence most men and women could not dream of.

I don't care about the social what's and where's of my favourite artists. I'd be very surprised if they came out of the closet though because most of them are dead. But apart from that I don't think it matters one tiny bit. Musicians aren't idols because of their sexuality, they're idols because of how well they can play.

Yeah, maybe 30 years ago...
