You are now aware that your jaw has weight and you are holding it up.

Did that statement have any effect on you?

It made me take my mind off the fact that I'm seeing Dylan in November.

lucifer_sam 10-12-2008 10:45 PM

The Bob?

Sadly to say, Bob Dylan's concerts nowadays are nothing more than a bittersweet farewell. He tours all the time, and I've seen him twice in the past year, both times leaving me ruefully unimpressed.

Yeah, his solely acoustic stuff in the early days was f*cking brilliant live, so it's pretty sad to see him in this state.

simplephysics 10-13-2008 04:47 PM

What a load.

Although it didn't take my mind off of the fact that I'm seeing Elephant 6 in November. :D

Yeah, the Bob.

I don't really care what he sounds like, it's Bob Dylan. And I liked Modern Times, and while he has a very rough voice, he can still sing on key.

I'm sure I'll enjoy just being there seeing him.

This would be so much more effective if everyone took a large dose of LSD.

Alfred 10-15-2008 07:45 PM

That'd be one bad trip.

Doesnt matter what he sounds like???? Thats what music is...sound

sleepy jack 10-15-2008 08:19 PM

That's not what a concert is though.

You cant honestly tell me that isnt what a concert is. I mean yes theirs the entire feeling experience, and many other things making the show. But the entire reason you are there is because you appreciate the actual music.

I mean Miley Cirus may put a GREAT show on , everyone's friendly, lights are great, but the music sucks. Now you would go to that?

sleepy jack 10-15-2008 08:52 PM

You can't call yourself a music fan then turn around and compare Bob Dylan (no matter how bad he's gotten) to Miley Cyrus.

It was an extreme to help prove a point, and you knew that.

sleepy jack 10-16-2008 03:02 PM

Extremes don't really help prove points when we're talking about a very specific situation. Comparing seeing Bob Dylan to the Rolling Stones would be more apt because they're both iconic artists who who changed the face of music. They're not some disney flavor of the month.

No the extreme doesn't affect this example at all. Still the same principal. You would not go to a rolling stones concert if i didn't like how they sounded. It wouldn't be worth the money.

sleepy jack 10-16-2008 07:13 PM

Yes you would, they're the fucking Rolling Stones. I mean I'm not a huge fan personally so I wouldn't but would I see Bob Dylan nowadays? Yeah and he probably sounds far worse than the Stones.

Hmmm...

Yet you call yourself a music fan, even though you'd go to the concert of someone that you don't even like the SOUND of???

WTF??? Oh!! For the 'scene?' To get to hang around with cool folks?

Yikes.

sleepy jack 10-17-2008 12:16 AM

What the fuck? I like Bob Dylan.

WendyCal 10-17-2008 12:52 AM

No, i'm saying you were on Rez, asking him that question, and it was funny, because of what you said.

Sort of like: Yeah, i'm a music fan, but i don't really care if the music sounds good or not, as long as i can be there.

sleepy jack 10-17-2008 12:53 AM

I don't follow your point here at all.

WendyCal 10-17-2008 12:58 AM

There were two quotes ~ the one about Rez comparing Dylan, and how could he call himself a music fan, ...

Then, you posted that even though Dylan probably sounds worse than the Stones, who you don't care for, you would still go to his concert, and that's sort of like saying that you're a music fan that doesn't really care what the music sounds like.

sleepy jack 10-17-2008 01:01 AM

Um, it's not. There is no correlation whatsoever between caring how music sounds and wanting to go to a concert.

You cant be serious. I cant argue with a statement like that.

sleepy jack 10-17-2008 01:06 AM

Yes I am, I love going to concerts and tend to go to concerts every weekend even if I've never heard the band or have heard them and don't care for them. Would I listen to those bands on album? No I wouldn't because I'm incredibly picky when it comes to albums about productions, creativity etc. Comparing albums to concerts is ridiculous, they're two completely different sides of music. Saying "Oh because you like going to concerts and don't care about who the artist is how they sound it must mean you don't care about how any music sounds" is illogical and retarded.

WendyCal 10-17-2008 01:07 AM

Hmmm ...

Okay

I'm kind of with sleepy jack here, although most of the time I will attend a concert because I like the sound of that band, there are some concerts I have been to purely because of the concert experience of that band, and I probably wouldn't listen to their album because it evokes a totally different experience than seeing them live. So comparing albums to concerts is difficult because they are two completely different sides of music.
