I understand what you are saying but it was'nt a case of him blowing the cinematic world apart and then becoming a pisshead. Many early roles were in 2 bit B movies and small roles in Hammer films. He was always a pisshead, but he just found out along the way that he was quite a good actor.
When it finally get's released * Ken Russel's 'The Devils' will be a perfect showcase for Reed's unique talents.
