Half of the people in my town talk with this weird, hick-mixed-wth-irish accent. I always make fun of it.

Australian and English accents are totally different! And I hate it when American movies/ television programs try to imitate the Australian accent and it turns out sounding like a weird hybrid of English/ New Zealandish/ South African. I was on Xbox live with my friend a couple of weeks ago and whenever we spoke everyone called us "Britons." We are 10562 miles away from the UK! I wonder if there will ever be a day where Australia is considered its own country with its own merits.

That being said, I really can't tell different American accents apart other than southern ones and New York ones maybe.

Yeah, New York/Jersey/Boston accents and the southern ones are very unique and hard to miss.

And only when I listen REALLY carefully can I make the distinction between English and Australian. Nothing against the cultures, just the way you speak.

And for you Australians, a "gday" or "a dingo ate me baby!" would be nice.

I swear I have never used g'day as a greeting once in my life. Unless I was making fun of the slang.
