How much should I pay a babysitter?
For the night, or by the hour?

hmm...It varies, a girl I know who's a babysitter get's payed 10 bucks an hour, but personally I think that's a bit high. Maybe 7 Bucks?

Approx £5 some and £3.60 if I can't be bothered to find a converter. Personally I think it all depends on how nice your kid is ;)

We gave her about £15 for just short of 4 hours.

Thats not bad. It doesn't matter what you think about the price. Did she seem happy when you paid her?
I've learned that if you overpay, they will be eager and cancel plans if you need them again.

When I babysit I usually get anywhere from $5 to 8 an hour, it really just depends on how belligerent the kid(s) are and if cooking/cleaning is involved.
When I get paid by the day (meaning all day) it's usually around $20/25.

I think what you paid her is fair.
