I personally think the whole Straight Edge lifestyle is style over substance and attention seeking. I admire people who lead a more purer life but to proclaim this and then label it smacks of a 'look at me' attitude.
Of course there is usually a need (especially early on in life) to ascribe to a particular sect of society but as you get older, you just try and be yourself; and indeed, usually become a better person as you don't need to live your life the ethos of any particular clique.

I agree, I respect people who choose not to indulge in certain things, but most straight edge kids I know come off as preachy and act as if they are above pot smokers/drinkers..ect. I would certainly never force my beliefs on someone else, and I don't judge someone depending on if they do drugs or not, yet it seems it doesn't work like that the other way around.

That's not true....Well, for the most part it is, alot of sXe kids I know don't rub in other people's faces. Even me, I don't tell people what to do, if they choose to smoke weed or whatever, be my guest. It's their life to live and they can do as they please with it.
