women try to be too safe and end up causing lots of potential accidents due to overcompensating. like the old ladies who drive no more than 70 on the highway (limit is 110) because they think they're being safer by moving significantly slower than the flow of traffic around them. age definitely seems like big factor to me. wow Tore's video is ridiculous hahaha wasn't expecting the recoil at the end |

Indeed. Those are all factors I'd assume, I just never see it reflected that way on the road. I know my driving route isn't the entire U.S. but it seems like there should be some kind of even spread if those factors are at play.
I drive 40 miles a day, 5 days a week on both freeways and congested city streets, and it's sort of a game I play to study the way people drive and try to guess their gender, age, and whether they're using a cellphone or not before I pass them... I'm getting deadly accurate. |

^ nice hehe (but scary)
my town is actually doing a big crackdown on driving at the moment. i can't count the amount of times i've had near misses in intersections or see absolute confusion at a 4-way stop and i'm normally a pedestrian in those situations. another big issue i see is the attitude that driving is a fundamental 'right' and not a privilege. actually i've never even had a driver's license, i much prefer being the passenger just like the old Iggy Pop tune so my views on other drivers probably needs a bit of salt. |

The biggest factor I assume to observe while I'm behind the wheel, is that most other drivers pay absolutely no attention to what is going on beyond the scope of their own vehicle.
I think it pays to be just as aware of your surroundings on the road as it does to be aware of what you're doing. I constantly try to anticipate what other drivers around me will or will not do, and constantly ensure I have an out should something occur. I always assume someone will fuck up. It racks your nerves. All the time. I've been doing it so long that it's second nature, but you can never get complacent when it comes to the unpredictable nature of other drivers. Because no matter how well you can drive, there's always someone who can wreck better. |

agreed.
so long, as you said, it becomes second nature. i fear those who's primary function is worrying about what other people are doing because they're obviously safe drivers by not paying any direct attention to what they're actually doing due to non-stop wagging of their finger and going half the speed limit. |

Yea, well the idea is to navigate defensively, and not just sit in a car behind the wheel and roll towards the shopping mall.
It's obviously bad if the only car you're not watching is the one behind the one in front of you, but even that would be an improvement compared to how some people drive. |
