I'll level with you; I get by pretty easy in the world. I also notice the plight of other, less fortunate individuals and have compassion for them. I guess that's pretty rare in society nowdays.

Well there are 3 things that necessarily cause obesity imo.
1. Environment. Face it, we live in a consumer society where healthy foods are expensive and unhealthy are cheap. Big Cooperations want you to buy cheap foods to increase they're revenue and people want to spend as less as they can on food and it still be "tasty" (I personally hate junk food, give me a thing for fresh fruit any day.) 2. The Strange Paradox of the Image Culture. Everything is based on looks now a days. All these skinny idols that barely any of the population can achieve drive some people to feel like they arent good enough because they dont look like that. Therefore they go to step 1 and get something cheap to fill the void. 3. People's Self esteem. Bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch. Thats all I hear come out of people's mouthes now a days. People are constantly talking about eachother and that gets everyone down. How sad. People are too receptive of other's criticism and feel the need to comfort themselves by... food? You know I could do an interesting paper on this, food eating as a means of comfort. I personally could give 2 ****s as to what people say about me and I don't talk **** behind people's backs. Its all about body image and people caring too much now adays. Its quit sad. |

Who says that fat people are less fortunate? If there is ever a food shortage they will last longer than us skinny ones!

There is no reason anyone should be fat. I understand some people have it a lot harder than others because of the difference in metabolisms. I've been an athlete my whole life and weight has always been something I've tried to put on more than take off. But for people who struggle with their weight all they have to do is watch their dieta bit and go out and get their hearts going above their target heart rate for gains to their cardiovascular systems.

Everyone knows that breaking pimples and scratching itches just makes it worse but why does it feel so good to do it? Does the pleasure one gets from straining the pus and blackheads from your nose justify the resulting cosmetic catastrophe.
All we can be sure that there are some times when the ugly people are happier than the rest of us.

I can say from personal experience that for the most part you all are right. People are just fat because they like to eat AND they don't exercise enough. They go hand in hand. Despite what I've posted in other threads, I actually eat pretty decently, a lot of whole foods and tons of water. But I'm still overweight. And when I was exercising I was dropping the pounds like nobody's business. But as soon as I stopped, it came to a screeching halt. Mostly, people are just fat because they make poor lifestyle choices. And while it is true that junk food tends to be cheaper in most cases, I think the real issue is just that it's more readily accessible and requires less preparation than buying whole foods that you have to prepare (which can also be acquired at a reasonable price). Most people (especially in America) are just too lazy and/or tired from work to make a decent meal anymore. Also, exercise can be incorporated into pretty much anyone's lifestyle. You don't necessarily have to put time aside to do it. It just takes effort people. That's really what it boils down to.
