American Tyranny

Check out this video by George Carlin. He is having the balls to say exactly what big corporations don't want him to say, and don't want average Americans thinking about.

Now, I'm sure some of you eternal optimists are thinking, well, give me a break here. Why spread anti-American sentiments, when you and I can earn a decent living and get by much better than most people in impoverished parts of the world?
I'll tell you why, because it signifies a breakdown in society. It is exactly what George Orwell warned about in his book 1984, that governments want us to think less and less and be all trusting of the government.(or the party, if you will). Do you people honestly think it can continue like this? It can't. It won't. I'm not calling for anarchy. I'm not calling for a violent revolution. All I'm calling for is for people to inform themselves. If enough people in this country begin bringing attention to this issue at national, state, or just local levels, it will begin to spread, and eventually the multinational corporations will get the picture. We won't be dumbed down anymore, and also, they will have to make less money. They will still be fairly wealthy. Is anyone on board with this idea?

I really read the thread title wrong.

He's right on the money when he talks about companies wanting a labor pool from which to draw workers with very narrow skills. This is why NCLB has put such extreme emphasis on high-stakes testing. And if you think it is one party or the other it's not. Government and business are intertwining so far it is hard to see where one ends and the other begins. Demsocrats work to increase the power of the former and Republicans the latter. The media likes to exaggerate their differences and they bicker and fight on CSPAN but they both ultimately serve the same master.

For just a moment, I want to talk about how he mentions a mental slave race. I find it interesting that History in school teaches us mostly meaningless things in the context of today's world. They teach us to memorize dates and battles. They don't teach us about the Constitution, and its articles. Shouldn't that be much more important than learning who was the leader of some battle 200 years ago? We are encouraged to learn about wars and why they were important and necessary. I'm just now getting into the Constitution, and some of the laws and fundamental beliefs that make the country what it is. It seems they don't really want us thinking about or questioning the way the country is run. This way, they can go about their imperialism class-gap widening unfettered.

Um, I had like an entire class on the constitution, bill of rights, etc. in middle school for a semester.
